A downloadable game for Windows

You wake up in what looks like an abandoned cabin in the middle of limbo. There's almost nothing in the entire building, except a few doors and a radio. The doors are locked, and then the radio starts buzzing.

Doortal is a short atmospheric horror game which takes place in a dark world where 2+2=5 and the rules of physics no longer apply. The only way to progress is by walking through doors, but are you sure you are ready for whats on the other side?

The playtime is about 10-20 minutes. If you see this page and are unable to find any executable, then this is because the game has not yet been released. Expect a release right before the deadline.

The game was written in the time of the jam, and the engine was written in 3 days as a preparation for the jam.

If you are unable to play the game (perhaps the game crashes, or your platform is not windows) there is a gameplay video that goes through the entire game that you can feel free to watch.

Of course, for anyone who's looked at this game for more than 15 seconds will realize, this project takes a lot of inspiration from the fantastic P.T demo that was published by konami a few years ago - so big shoutouts to them for that (and fuck you for not making silent hills a thing)

Please do note, the base game (i;e release full) requires at least 4gb of vram. Because this is a lot of VRAM and many people may not have this much, two other releases are also provided.

Release lowerend should run just fine on any hardware with 3gb of vram or more, and for hardware with less vram release lowend should run fine with hardware with as little as 1.5gb of vram (however it is expected that not a lot of applications are running in the background in this case!)

As for performance, the game has been tested on an intel HD 630 GPU at 1080p, where it consistently gets ~25 frames per second (and given the nature of this game that is totally playable) so as long as your hardware is faster than this, running at 1080p is no issue. If your hardware is lower end it is recommended that you lower your resolution (as there are no graphics options in the game itself!)

This project uses a lot of assets that weren't made by me, click here to get credits for all of the respective creators for their assets.

Gave it a go...

Hello friend, this happens to me when I run the .exe

big thank you for putting this game out I had fun with it but there was a few problems with it which I address in my video. However great game thanks :)

Hey! Thanks for checking it out. It seems like one of the larger issues which you (and a lot of other players) seem to be encountering is that the part where you need to stay in the lights is way too hard. This was entirely my mistake, as it seems I had a very skewed view of how difficult that section was. Naturally as the developer I had played it countless times and thus I found it to be just difficult enough, but this was clearly not the case. I always intended for it to be a "die once live once" kind of scenario, where you die at the section the first time and survive the next time. It seems to have become more of a "die 5 times live once" scenario, which is of course very frustrating since you need to play it all over again every time. Still, I'm happy you found some enjoyment out of it. and yeah, there are countless bugs everywhere. I shall use the fact that it is a jam game as an excuse for that though :p

The part with the lights was I died twice and did it the third time. Thing was with that part was the fact there is no run button (at least it wasn't on the normal key binding of shift) But I will note the third time I did it I was lucky as it seems the lights are randomised each time you play that part. The third time I was getting the lights all on the same wall rather than across the room.

Still loved the game, would like to see it evolve in some way I liked the idea of the radio world etc. keep at it.

You've got the atmosphere on this down really really well, it was really tense!! Good job!!

(This is the second game on the video)
